Why Words of Osiris?

Why I stuck with this title

Not one of my normal posts, but I just wanted to share to whole process on how I came up with such a mystifying name.

Around late September, I wanted my voice to be heard. I wanted to start a blog on Malta. I wanted to call it something original but also something that had to do with my island home.

Inspired by our national bird, the Blue Rock Thrush, I wanted to call my blog Little Rock Thrush.

I thought it was a great name and had already started working on a logo with the BRT initials. Later that night I met up with my girlfriend and she crushed my idea. “Isn’t Thrush an STD?” she asked me rhetorically.

I googled ‘Thrush’ and the most disgusting images came up on that search. I definitely didn’t want people to find those pictures if they ever had to google me.

So my idea fell flat, I was kinda gutted, still like the name.

Weeks passed, and I just wanted to start to blogging. I wanted something for good luck and the first thing that came to mind was the eye of Osiris. This eye was first used when the Phoenicians visited the islands millenia before we were ever born.

It was thought to bring good luck or keep the bad spirits away from your vessel when fairing the seas. The symbol is also seen in Cypriot culture, in those hanging souvenirs you can buy from most shops.

Orisis, in Egyptian Mythos, is known by many as the God of the Afterlife but he is more appropriately called the God of Transition, Resurrection and Regeneration.

I thought naming my blog after this myth would make sense. A strong connotation with my mother island and being the god of change and a new beginning would fit well to my theme.

I wanted to generate thought and consequently change through my words. I wanted not only to start a blog but to inspire change in the many things I see around me, while also serving as my outlet.
